Insurance Requirements

A Nevada Evidence of Insurance card must be carried in your vehicle at all times and presented to any law enforcement officer upon request.

Nevada requires that automobile liability insurance policies carry minimum coverage of $15,000 for bodily injury or death of one person in any one accident; $30,000 for bodily injury or death or two or more persons on any one accident; and $10,000 for injury to or destruction of property of others in any one accident. Coverage must be reported by an insurance company authorized to do business in the State of Nevada.

The Insurance Verification Program applies only to liability insurance. Comprehensive and collision coverage is not reported to DMV.

Motor Carriers - Higher liability insurance requirements apply to Motor Carriers (any person or business which transports people or property for hire). For more information, ask your insurance agent or contact our Motor Carrier section. See also our Vehicles in Business guide and Nevada Administrative Code Chapter 706

Self-Insurance - Persons or businesses who have more than 10 vehicles may qualify as a self-insurer. See Fleet Registration/Self-Insurance and Nevada Revised Statutes Chapter 485.

SR-22 - Motorists with driver license suspensions or revocations may be required to file SR-22 Proof of Financial Responsibility with the DMV to regain their driving privileges. This is not part of the Insurance Verification Program. See Driver License Suspensions and Revocations.

Insurance Company Licensing - The carrier must be licensed to do business in the State of Nevada. If your insurance is with a large, national company, you must notify the company that you have moved to Nevada. Out-of-state insurance is not accepted and will result in a Verification Request as outlined above.
